Finger Stick Blood Testing
Glucose (GLU)
Glucose is the primary energy source for every cell in the body. Elevation of glucose levels occurs with diabetes, yet few symptoms are present until late in the disease process. Early detection offers the best hope for averting the serious complications of diabetes that can include blindness, kidney failure, and amputations. While fasting is preferred, it is not mandatory for this test. Non-fasting Glucose tests can still indicate a risk for diabetes.
Total Cholesterol (TC)
Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that is needed by the body. However, abnormal cholesterol levels can increase risk of a heart attack or stroke. The Total Cholesterol measurement is actually the combination of several different types of cholesterol in the blood. Fasting is not required for this test.
Total Cholesterol and Glucose (TC, GLU)
This is a combined test that measures Total Cholesterol and Glucose from the same blood sample. Fasting is not required for this test.
Total Cholesterol and HDL Cholesterol (TC, HDL)
The Total Cholesterol measurement is actually the combination of several different types of cholesterol in the blood. One of the components is HDL Cholesterol (High Density Lipoprotein), known as the "good" cholesterol. It is called the "good" cholesterol because it helps prevent excess fatty substances from collecting on artery walls.
This is a combined test that measures Total Cholesterol and the specific component HDL Cholesterol from the same blood sample. Fasting is not required for this test.
Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol and Glucose (TC, HDL, GLU)
This is a combined test that measures Total Cholesterol, the HDL Cholesterol and Glucose from the same blood sample. Fasting is not required for this test.
Lipid Panel (TC, HDL, TRIG, LDL)
The Total Cholesterol measurement is actually the combination of several different types of cholesterol in the blood. One of the components is HDL Cholesterol (High Density Lipoprotein), known as the "good" cholesterol. It is called the "good" cholesterol because it helps prevent excess fatty substances from collecting on artery walls. A second component LDL Cholesterol (Low Density Lipoprotein) is known as the "bad" cholesterol. It is called the "bad" cholesterol because it is "sticky" and tends to cling to artery walls and block the flow of blood. Triglycerides are actually the form in which fat is carried through your blood to the tissues.
This is a combined test that measures Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol and Triglycerides, while LDL Cholesterol is calculated from the values of the other parameters. Fasting is required for this test.
Lipid Panel and Glucose (TC, HDL, TRIG, LDL, GLU)
This is a combined test that measures Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides and Glucose, while LDL Cholesterol is calculated from the values of the other parameters. Fasting is required for this test.
Hemoglobin A1c
Hemoglobin A1c monitors a component of the blood that determines whether a diabetic is managing glucose levels over the previous three months. Fasting is required for this test.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) is produced in the pituitary gland and serves to stimulate the production of thyroid hormones. Abnormal levels of TSH can cause weight gain, fatigue and memory problems. It can also increase the risk of heart disease. Fasting is not required for this test.
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
The Prostate Specific Antigen is a protein antigen found in all adult males and may be elevated in prostate cancer. It is used in the routine screening of men for prostate cancer. When combined with a digital rectal exam, it can detect almost 90% of all prostate cancers. Fasting is not required for this test.
NOTE: For Men Only
Specialty Laboratory Testing
Lipid Panel and Glucose
This is a combined test that measures Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides and Glucose, while LDL Cholesterol is calculated from the values of the other parameters. Fasting is required for this test.
Custom Chemistry Panel(s)
EHMS offers the option to have other routine blood chemistry panels or combinations of individual blood chemistry tests available to meet client needs. Fasting may be required for these tests.
Complete Blood Count w/Differential (CBC)
The Complete Blood Count measures the various cellular components of your blood including your white cells, red cells, and platelets. These are important to evaluate risk for anemia, infection, clotting disorders or even leukemia. Fasting is not required for this test.
C-Reactive Protein
C-Reactive Protein is important to assess individual risk for heart disease. This substance is elevated in various medical conditions such as infection or trauma. Elevated levels have also been associated with the presence of "insulin-resistance", as well as, an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Fasting is not required for this test.
Homocysteine
Homocysteine is a building block for the production of proteins in the body. However, elevated serum levels are associated with premature vascular disease and death. Recent studies have shown that low homocysteine levels can increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and clotting disorders. Fasting is required for this test.
NOTE: For Men Only
Physical Assessment Testing
Blood Pressure
Hypertension is a major medical condition in America. An abnormal pulse pressure inside the arteries can indicate many problems including cardiovascular and kidney disease. Blood pressure is measured using a stethoscope and properly sized blood pressure cuff placed on the arm.
% Body Fat/Body Mass Index
An optimum combination of fat and muscle exists for everyone. High levels of body fat are a risk factor for the development of diabetes and heart disease. There are several methods for measuring % Body Fat/Body Mass Index. The most common are skin fold calipers, bio-impedance and infrared. Each method has its own source of error, but all provide useful information for evaluating long-term health risks.
Grip Strength
Grip Strength refers to the condition of the muscles in the forearm and hand. It is a measure of upper body strength and a good indicator of overall body strength. Grip Strength is measured by using an instrument called a "grip dynamometer." When you "squeeze", the dynamometer records the strength of your muscles. The scores from several trials are taken and averaged.
Flexibility (sit and reach)
Flexibility is often referred to as Range of Motion (ROM). ROM is defined as the movement of muscles, ligaments and tendons around a joint or set of joints. The Sit & Reach test measures leg, hip, back, and shoulder flexibility. The test is conducted in a sitting position with the participant bending forward at the hips without raising the legs.
Other Services
Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease that causes low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue, with a decrease in bone strength and susceptibility to fracture. Osteoporosis is most often confirmed by the finding of low bone mass through Bone Mineral Density testing. Participants sit and place their foot into an instrument that uses ultrasound to measure the os calcis (heel) bone. A Bone Mineral Density result with a T-score is provided in one minute.
Pulmonary Function Testing
Pulmonary Function Testing can help identify the presence of factors that comprise lung performance. A fast and forceful exhalation is made into a flow sensor tube connected to a Spirometer. The quantity and speed of exhaled air is then compared to a predicted value. Results are available immediately.
Sun Damage Education (Dermascan)
The main objective of the this tool is to educate participants about safe-sun practices, including daily use of sunscreen. A Dermascan instrument is used to provide participants with a look at their normal/healthy skin, dry skin, oily skin and importantly, sun damaged skin that is not visible to the naked eye.
Note: This screening does not diagnose or treat any skin condition or disease.
Vaccinations (influenza and pneumonia)
The appropriate FDA approved serum is delivered via injection to reduce the body's susceptibility.
Chair Massage Therapy
This popular service provides participants the many stress relieving benefits of massage. Focusing primarily on the neck and upper back, the participant is seated in an ergonomically correct position while a licensed massage therapist performs stress-relieving magic.
